Sälen, Sweden

Sälen is Sweden’s largest combined resort when it comes to number of lifts and runs in one area under one name. It is made up of 6 smaller resorts, Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjällen (together “Skistar Sälen”), Kläppen and Stöten (see separate descriptions). It has almost as many tourist beds and uplifts as all the other Swedish areas put together. Trails are mostly for beginners and intermediates, but even experienced skiers will find challenges on the 20 black trails and in Hundfjällen you will find the “The Wall” which is very steep (in a Nordic context). The Sälen area is a place especially for families and it is well-known for its large, dedicated areas for children.

Trails: 134 km (combined 6 areas)
Lifts: 11 (+ 91 surface lifts)

My family and I are considering Sweden next year but have never bin to the nordics befor. is it snow safe enoug with the low altitude? We are planing around late February.

They should install windsheilds on the chairlifts – the wind at the top is extremely cold and sheilds would make a hell of a difference. Lift passes cost the same as in the Alps where you ride in high speed gondolas in 3000 meters altitude… so come on – upgrade to modern standards.

Sälen is great for beginners and for starting the season but if you are good at skiing don’t expect much challenges here – you would need to go to the Alps (and I am even from Sweden 😉 But for a family holiday with small or minor children it is perfect – nothing like it
