Valloire, France

Valloire is located at the foot of the famous Col du Galibier, one of the highest in France and well-known for making a fantastic scenery for the Tour de France bike riders in the summertime. Skiing peaks at 2645m and 70% of the slopes lies above 2000m which makes it quite snow sure. Valloire is not a large resort compared to other more well-known French destinations, and it is best suited for beginner skiers and snowboarders, but there is some terrain for both experts and intermediates too. Actually the fact that Valloire is not a difficult area, is also what makes it great and unique and a good place for beginners and intermediates to experience the French Alps. Many other French resorts can be too much of a mouthful for beginners, but Valloire is definitely a good entry point if you are not yet a World Champion.

Probably going to Valloire next winter – I have heard that it is a rather small but lovely area also for beginners – is this true? Anyone can advise?

For beginners and intermediates looking for snow sure conditions (many pistes above 2000m) Valloire is a good choice. You will have stabile weather conditions/many hours of sun, family-friendly pistes and a nice town. I would absolutely recommend it. Have been there once but could easily see myself coming back. Nothing really bad to say – I’d give it 4 out of 5. (To get 5 it would have had to be a bigger area – but what is there, is really good!)
